Danish team High Class Racing will contest the full 2022 IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship, in the LMP2 class with a single Oreca 07-Gibson.
The team are set to leave the FIA WEC after the just-completed 2021 season with the IMSA programme replacing that full-season commitment.
High Class Racing regulars Anders Fjordbach and Dennis Andersen who combined this season in an LMP2 Pro-Am effort, are confirmed as racing in the full seven-round 2022 championship. Other drivers for the remainder of the season will be confirmed in due course.
High Class first raced in IMSA competition earlier this year at the Rolex 24 at Daytona though a gearbox issue saw them post an early retirement.
The team also fielded a two-car LMP2 effort at Le Mans this year with one car shared by Fjordbach, Jan and Kevin Magnussen.
“I’m thrilled to be able to announce our full-season effort,” said Anders Fjordbach. “We had a strong run in 2021 Rolex 24 at Daytona, which was our first IMSA race as a team and even the result was not the expected, we fell in love with the atmosphere and such a competitive field. Now we have three years of experience with the Oreca 07-Gibson and we are ready to show our potential starting next January at Daytona International Speedway”.
“I had a lot of fun at Daytona this year and since then, we have been working on the possibility of a full-season program in such a prestigious championship with so many passionate fans not only in the U.S. but all over the world. I can’t wait to face this new challenge!”, finished Andersen.
The High Class entry is one of several expected in the IMSA Championship in 2022 from the ranks of the WEC and/ or ELMS with DSC revealing yesterday that Cetilar Racing are set to join the IMSA GTD field next year.
As revealed by DSC last month, Algarve Pro Racing will race at Daytona with 2 x LMP2s and have active plans for a single LMP2 effort in the IMSA enduros, DragonSpeed will undertake a yet-to-be-confirmed US LMP2 programme also that looks set to start with both the Rolex 24 Hours and Sebring 12 Hours and with other likely programmes to follow.
