FIA Motorsport Games Endurance Discipline Confirmed

150 Minute race - up to three drivers - GT3 and LMP3 cars

More details of the Endurance discipline for October’s FIA Motorsport Games were revealed during the SRO Press Conference at the Spa 24 Hours.

The Games, the second edition of which are being held from October 26-30 in Marseille and at the nearby Circuit Paul Ricard, sees a vastly expanded range of motorsport disciplines (up to 17) in their second COVID-delayed iteration.

Endurance will see a new multi-class competition with LMP3 and GT3 cars sharing the track with FIA member clubs and National Sporting Authorities (ASNs) participating under their national colours, competing for gold, silver, and bronze medals (1 entry per ASN/Nation).

GT3-spec cars raced in the inaugural running of the FIA Motorsport Games in 2019, as part of the GT Cup. They are set to return to the second event this year, featuring across Endurance, GT and GT Sprint.

LMP3 prototypes, meanwhile, will make their event debut this October.

The LMP3 cars will race in the same specification as they do in the European Le Mans Series, Asian Le Mans Series, Michelin Le Mans Cup and Road to Le Mans, as well as the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship and new-for-2022 Prototype Cup Germany.

The FIA Motorsport Games Endurance competition is open to teams consisting of a minimum of two and a maximum of three drivers, with the maximum driver pairing being one Platinum, one Silver and one mandatory Bronze driver.

It will begin with two 60-minute free practice sessions. Qualifying will be divided into three 15-minute segments (one for each of the three drivers), with the grid determined by the average time of all three drivers per car.

That leads up to the 150-minute race around the 5.770-kilometre circuit which will feature two mandatory pit stops, each including refuelling, changing of all four tyres and a change of driver.

Marek Nawarecki, Director of FIA Sports and Touring Cars, said: “The world of endurance racing by its nature is diverse and inclusive. In major endurance series, we can see teams and drivers representing countries from all continents. For this reason, I believe that the Endurance discipline will attract a strong and eclectic entry that will produce great competition.

“FIA Motorsport Games Endurance will also be the first FIA event for LMP3 cars. This platform has already proven to be successful and has been adopted by championships worldwide. Endurance racing is on a rise and having it on the bill of the FIA Motorsport Games is another positive development for this form of motor racing.”

Entries for the 2022 FIA Motorsport Games are open until Sunday, 25 September via the dedicated FIA registration platform.

Competitors wishing to represent their country are encouraged to contact their respective National Sporting Authority, a full list of which can be found here >>
