Mitchell Fastest In Damp Donington Pre-Qualifying

Lamborghini factory driver Sandy Mitchell was the fastest driver in a damp but drying pre-qualifying British GT session at Donington Park.

Driving the #78 Barwell Motorsport Lamborghini Huracán GT3 EVO2, the Scotsman set the benchmark towards the end with a 1:33.616 lap time.

Unlike the dry yet windy opening practice, pre-qualifying began after a light shower drizzled down, with the wind still prevalent.

The wet tyre compound was evidently the preference for all 24 participating cars across the GT3 and GT4 categories, even though the damp track conditions became drier towards the end of the 60-minute session.

Mercedes-AMG factory driver Maximilian Götz jumped to second place at the end with a 1:32.717 lap time in 2 Seas Motorsport’s #18 Mercedes-AMG GT3 Evo.

Team Parker Racing’s #66 Porsche 911 GT3.R of Sven Müller, one of Stuttgart’s factory-level drivers, was third-quickest with his lap time of 1:33.049.

Soon after Martin Plowman set an encouraging level of pace in the #9 Paddock Motorsport McLaren GT3 Evo, his teammate Mark Smith continued the rhythm with an even quicker time to put them in fourth place with a 1:33.221.

Marvin Kirchhöfer put the #77 Optimum Motorsport McLaren in fifth position after setting a 1:33.533.

Reining drivers’ champion Rob Collard was sixth in the #1 Barwell Lamborghini with his 1:33.575 time, followed by four-time champion Jonny Adam’s #7 Blackthorn Aston Martin Vantage AMR GT3 Evo and a 1:33.667.

The championship-leading #42 2 Seas Mercedes-AMG, which has led the championship since winning the Donington opener, was eighth-fastest in the hands of Kiern Jewiss (1:33.698).

Callum Macleod of the #3 Optimum McLaren was ninth (1:34.100) as Sam Neary of the #8 Team Abba Racing Mercedes-AMG rounded out the top 10 (1:35.012).

In the GT4 category, Optimum Motorsport’s #17 McLaren Artura GT4 driver Luca Hopkinson completed a quickest time of 1:38.893.

Owen Hizzy took second in the #31 MKH Racing Aston Martin Vantage AMR GT4 Evo with a 1:40.344 to hold the edge on Charlie Robertson’s #71 Century Motorsport BMW M4 GT4 Evo and his 1:40.933.

Marc Warren claimed fourth in the #90 Optimum McLaren after setting a 1:41.071 lap time as Seb Morris rounded out the top five for the #12 Team Parker Racing Mercedes-AMG GT4.

Following its collision in free practice, the #88 Mahiki Racing Ginetta G56 GT4 Evo was unable to participate in pre-qualifying, with the focus shifting to qualifying later on.

The final qualifying session of the 2025 British GT season takes place from 15:50 local time.
