Macau Grand Prix, Laurens Vanthoor Fastest, But Crashes Out Of FP1

Laurens Vanthoor convincingly topped a rapid FP1 session on Thursday afternoon at Macau in the FIA GT World Cup but crashed out heavily in the final moments of the session, spinning out of Turn 2 and hitting the barriers hard on the inside with significant damage to his #92 Tempo by Absolute Racing Porsche.

The Belgian star exited the car without assistance; the session was not restarted, and his 2:16.451 set in the second half of the 30-minute session remained the top time.

Second fastest was local hero Yifei Ye, his #83 Harmony Racing Ferrari 296 GT3 0.755 seconds off Vanthoor’s best with Raffaelle Marciello’s #53 ROWE Racing BMW third ahead of Adderly Fong’s Uno Racing Team Audi,  all four inside a single second.

With the #992 returned to the paddock, the Absolute racing team set about assessing the damage, a full spares package is on site, including engines, sub-assemblies, and a new chassis should they be required.
