The Pikes Peak International Hill Climb isn’t an endurance event, but it is an event that draws enthusiasm and interest from around the world, and it has done so now in 104 runnings of the event in 110 years!
The weekend saw the 2026 edition again featuring the talents of the true all-rounder that is Romain Dumas. The mercurial Frenchman followed up his 24th appearance at the 24 Hours of Le Mans earlier this month with his sixth overall pikes Peak win, this time in the Ford Super Mustang Mach-E EV, completing the 12.42-mile, 156-turn course in 8:18.202s, the third fastest full-course overall winning time ever.
Dumas’ effort proved to be too quick for four-time winner Robin Shute to challenge in his newly completed ‘Sendycar’ though his 8:29.497 time in claiming second place overall was good enough to be an all-time rear wheel drive record.
2025 winner Simone Faggioli finished third overall despite falling victim to a technical issue during his run in his much developed Nova Proto.
Whilst Ford claimed the overall win, Chevy claimed a significant scalp with JR Hildebrand’s 9:30.104 in the Chevrolet Corvette ZR1X claiming 9th fastest time overall, but more significantly an all-time Production car record!
Posting a DNF after a scary off in the first part of the course was Bruce Jouanny in his near stock Ligier JS2R prepped by Dumas’ team RD Limited, this a ‘sighting mission’ ahead of a planned assault with a much developed version of the car next year. Jouanny was entirely unhurt after the Ligier left the road and ploughed into the dense forest, astonishingly hitting nothing in the process.
