Dan Brown Becomes A GT Master

British GT racer Dan Brown will be heading to the airport this morning after receiving a late invitation to join Vita4One at the Nürburgring for this weekend’s ADAC GT Masters meeting, where he will race the #46 BMW Z4 GT3 alongside Martin Matzke.

“I’d been speaking to Michel Bartels about doing the Spa 24 with them and went to the test with the team,” he told DSC. “Unfortunately, things couldn’t be sorted for that race but he gave me a call on Tuesday asking if I was available this weekend. Yelmer Buurman normally races the #46, but isn’t available for this round. The drive is funded, so all I needed to do was sort flights and insurance.”

Despite having only just turned 22, Brown has been racing GT3s at the top level for five years now, including two seasons with AF Corse in the FIA GT3 Championship. This season, he is racing an Optimum888 Z4 GT3 in the British GT Championship with Steve Tandy, and the duo have already finished on the podium twice this season. “Vita4One have two years more experience of the Z4 than does Optimum888, so it may also be an opportunity to pick up some pointers for our BGT campaign. The Yokohama tyres will be interesting too – the only other time I’ve used them was in a 750MC race in a Citroen Saxo!

“I don’t know Martin, but have raced against him a number of times in the past in FIA GT3 so hopefully he’ll remember me. We’re both Silver rated, so we won’t have to carry any ballast. I’m really looking forward to it and am very happy to have been asked.”

Free Practice and Qualifying take place on Friday, with Race 1 beginning at 12:15 on Saturday and Race 2 at the same time on Sunday.
