The second free practice session was delayed and shortened because of early morning heavy fog. Once it got underway, the G-Drive Racing by DragonSpeed ORECA set the pace, courtesy of Ryo Hirakawa.
In LMP2, Felipe Albuquerque in the #32 United Autosport Ligier JSP217 improved yesterday’s fastest lap time early on in the session by clocking a 2:03.605 lap. Though Ryo Hirakawa in the #22 G-Drive Racing Oreca 07 Gibson then took over the lead by lapping over half a second quicker than the Portuguese (2:03.058). He stayed on top of the time sheets until the end of the session, ahead of the #40 GRAFF Oreca 07 Gibson (2:03.579) despite this car colliding in the morning with the #11 Eurointernational Ligier JSP3. The #32 ultimately finished third in the LMP2 category (2:03.605).
The fastest Dallara was the #49 High Class Racing driven by Dennis Andersen and Anders Fjordbach (2:06.126). This car had an accident in the morning with the #19 YMR Ligier JSP3 of Neale Muston, who was subsequently reported for dangerous driving.
In LMP3, the #10 Oregon Team Norma M30 had a hectic time. A few minutes after the green light, the car got off track at Turn 14. This triggered a first full course yellow episode. Only 10 minutes later, the Norma lost oil in that same corner and was parked temporarily. This event interrupted the session a second time. Once the car was repaired, Andres Mendez set fastest lap (2:17.327). But in the final minutes of the session, Wayne Boyd in the #3 United Autosport Ligier JSP3 set the class-leading time (2:15.781) ahead of the #10 Norma and the #13 Inter Europe Competition Ligier JSP3 (2:17.454).
Meanwhile in LMGTE, Aaron Scott in the #55 Spirit Of Race Ferrari F488 GTE topped the session early on with a 2:19.204. Then, just minutes before the checkered flag, Nicki Thiim clocked a 2:17.901 and improved on yesterday’s fastest LMGTE lap by thirty thousands of a second for TF Sport.
The #66 JMW Motorsport Ferrari was second (2:18.951). Taking the final podium position in the category was a third Ferrari, the #51 Spirit Of Race Ferrari F488 GTE (2:18.958).
