The current work to introduce new GT regulations rumble on with the latest tip to reach the DSC editorial desk indicating that there is a current proposal that existing GTE cars will be grandfathered to 2018.
In many ways that makes sense, giving existing manufacturers and teams the opportunity to recoup their investment in these expensive machines, but what is needed soon is a real timeline to allow those that aspire to join both the new GT and GT + categories to develop confidence and new product.
The inevitable uncertainty that the current debate brings has already, for now at least, cost us the opportunity of seeing a GTE spec McLaren and latterly a GT3 spec Corvette C7, and there are others too that are taking the decision to sit on the fence and wait for clarity – A sensible decision but not one that is encouraging much more than steady evolution in the field.
