33 Cars For Le Mans Cup At Monza

TF Sport add an Aston - Frikadelli make LMP3 debut - But still no H24!

33 cars are set to contest Round 3 of the 2021 Michelin Le Mans Cup at Monza on 10 July, the final event before the teams head to Le Mans for the highlight of the season, Road to Le Mans, in August.

LMP3

LMP welcomes a 26 car grid with the Championship wide open. Six drivers and three cars are tied on 33 points at the top of the championship table.

Thanks to their race win at Le Castellet, Tony Wells and Colin Noble are leading the championship. John Schauerman and Wayne Boyd have a second and third place finish and are second in the overall classification, while a third in Barcelona and a second in Le Castellet means Matt Bell and Maurice Smith are currently third.

A DNF in Le Castellet for the no22 United Autosports Ligier of Scott Andrews and Gerald Kraut dropped them to 4th in the classification after taking 25 points in Barcelona.

Added to the entry for Monza are Frikadelli Racing Team, Klaus Abbelen and Axcil Jeffries join after the team delayed their entry earlier this season in the #30 Ligier following the passing of Abbelen’s partner Sabine Schmitz.

The #77 Team Thor Ligier meanwhile sees the highly experienced Anders Fjordbach join Audunn Gudmundsson. The Dane will contest the races at Monza, Spa and Portimao with the team.

GT3

The GT3 grid sees a boost to seven cars run by five teams, 4 x Ferrari 488 GT3, 1 x Porsche 911 GT3R, 1 x Mercedes AMG GT3 and 1 x Aston Martin Vantage AMR GT3.

TF Sport will make their first appearance in the MLMC this season with an Aston Martin Vantage AMR GT3 driven by Ben Keating and Ross Gunn. This an opportunity for Keating to get valuable track time at Monza ahead of the following weekend’s FIA WEC event where he will compete with TF Sport in a GTE Am Aston Martin.

The team will use the car that raced in the British GT  Silverstone 500 last weekend as the #38 for Giacomo Petrobelli and Charlie Eastwood.

Championship leader Rino Mastronardi will not be competing for his home race at Monza, his place in the #8 Iron Lynx Ferrari being taken by Italian Gabriele Lancieri, who will be joined by Paolo Ruberti.  That could well be a move to offset the looming Bronze success penalty that applies in the Series this year.

Round 1 winner Nicolas Leutwiler will be joined in the #2 Porsche by Julien Andlauer after he missed the race in Le Castellet.

After missing the event in Le Castellet with a fixture clash at the Nürburgring,, German team 10Q Racing Team returns in Monza with the #93 Mercedes AMG GT3

One car not listed, and with no immediate explanation, is the H24 Hydrogen fuel cell powered racer, its planned race debut now having been postponed since the opening race of the season!

Qualifying and the race will be streamed live on the Series YouTube page and official website, watch DSC for details.
