Lamborghini CEO Stephan Winkelmann has shared the timeline for the introduction of the Huracan GT3 EVO II and Super Trofeo’s successors, with the new cars set to make their race debuts in 2026 and 2027 respectively.
“The GT3 version will be in 2026 and in 2027 the Super Trofeo (based on the greater volume of cars that need to be produced) and we will showcase the car next year,” Winkelmann confirmed to reporters last week in Le Mans. “It will be a new name and it will be a fighting bull.”
While details of the new car are scarce at this stage, Lamborghini’s chief technical officer (and interim head of motorsport) Rouven Mohr did share some information about the engine platform that the car will be based on.
“For us, the baseline of racing is always one-make series and GT3. We are highly competitive and are clearly committed to continuing. We have a clear direction.” He said.
“I can tell you that unlike the LMDh (SC63) with a standalone engine, the Super Trofeo as well as the GT3 car will have the street engine including all the highly sophisticated stuff. It will not be hybrid though (like the road-going model it is based on), so it will need to be modified, then let’s see if high-revving makes sense or not.
“We have to find the best compromise between drivability and efficiency.”
Lamborghini’s plans to transition away from the Huracan platform are being drawn up at a time when it is working on filling the position of head of motorsport, which has been temporarily filled by Rouven Mohr since Giorgio Sanna unexpectedly resigned back in March.
His replacement is expected to be revealed before the end of the year.
“We interviewed some people, we are at the final screening phase and we are hopeful we can close very soon. At the moment it isn’t finally decided but we are close to the finish line,” said Mohr.
“Our wish would be to close within the next weeks or a maximum of two months.”
