15 years after it last raced in the American Le Mans Series, Intersport Racing has announced its entry into the 2026 IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship LMP2 class.
The revived Intersport team, led by founder Jon Field, will run the #37 ORECA 07–Gibson in partnership with Indy NXT powerhouse HMD Motorsports. The team will be operated out of HMD’s new racing shop in Brownsburg, Indiana.
Field made his first IMSA start in over ten years when he drove the #43 Inter Europol Competition ORECA LMP2 at this year’s Rolex 24 At Daytona; he was then replaced by Jeremy Clarke for the remainder of the season at Inter Europol.
But Field is happy to begin his next chapter and help bring Intersport Racing back to top-level American sports car racing, alongside HMD founder Henry Malukas (father of IndyCar Series driver David) and HMD Team President Mike Maurini.
“I am very excited to be back in IMSA and to see the Intersport Racing name return to the paddock,” Field said. “This long-term partnership with HMD Motorsports is something I’m truly looking forward to as we head into 2026 with big plans for the future. Henry and Mike operate a top-tier program in other series, and I know they are motivated to bring that same level of drive and professionalism to IMSA.
“We’ve already been in discussions with several drivers and key partners, and we’ll be on track next week with our LMP2 car for its initial shakedown. From there, we have a comprehensive testing program ahead of our debut at the Rolex 24 — and I can’t wait.”
During Intersport’s initial run from 1998 to 2011, Jon Field won the 2002 American Le Mans Series LM675 Drivers’ Championship, driving the MG-Lola EX257. Three years later with the Lola B05/40, his son Clint would lead Intersport to the Drivers’ and Teams’ Championships in 2005.
Intersport also won its class two times at the Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring, and four times consecutively at the Motul Petit Le Mans in Road Atlanta. Intersport also entered the Le Mans 24 Hours from 2003 to 2006.
The team’s first shakedown of its new ORECA LMP2 chassis will take place in a private test at Putnam Park on 16/17 September, while the team plans to run in the Historic Sportscar Racing (HSR) event at Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta on 25–28 September.
Intersport Racing will make its return to top-tier American sports car racing at the 2026 Daytona 24 Hours. Further details including the team’s remaining driver line-up will be announced later.
