Four Maseratis Entered For GT2 European Series

At least four Maserati MC20 GT2s are set to contest this year’s GT2 European Series, in the centenary year of the marque’s first-ever motor race, the 1926 Targa Florio.

Two-time Am drivers’ champion Philippe Prette is returning to LP Racing, as he aims to win a third consecutive title. The Monegasque driver dominated Am last season, winning 10 out of 12 races and scoring 10 pole positions.

The Italian outfit will also field a second entry in Pro-Am, for rookies Niccolò Pirri and Thomas Yu Lee. 17-year-old Pirri, who is switching to GT racing from Formula 4, is set to be the youngest driver in the field this year. Lee, meanwhile, previously raced in Lamborghini Super Trofeo Asia.

Dinamic Motorsport is set to run an unchanged driver line-up aboard its MC20 GT2, with Mauro Calamia and Roberto Pampanini both returning. The pairing finished third in the Pro-Am drivers’ standings last season, following two race wins and six podium finishes.

The fourth entry comes from Belgian team i4Race, which is set to make its GT2 debut and arrives with a background in rallying. Antoine Potty, who raced for Comtoyou Racing in the GT World Challenge Europe Endurance Cup last season, will drive the car, with his co-driver set to be announced soon.

Further Maserati MC20 GT2s may still join the GT2 European Series grid, which is set to experience significant growth for 2026 after featuring as little as eight cars at times last season. This figure has now already been matched, with the four Maseratis joining confirmed two-car efforts from Team CMR and SR Motorsport by Schnitzelalm with the season opener still over two months away.

Vincent Biard, Head of Maserati Corse, said: “Once again this year, we will have the opportunity to demonstrate the competitiveness of our Maserati GT2 in the GT2 European Series Powered by Pirelli. Maserati’s history is made up of races and successes, taken by combining elegance and a sporting spirit. Not only an activity for us, our origins lie in racing.

“With this in mind, we have embarked on the GT2 journey and more generally on new challenges in motorsport, where we can now extend to endurance races thanks to the dedicated kit. The goal for the 2026 European Series is to confirm the performance demonstrated by our cars while they work to leave their mark. If we could win the title in our centenary year, it would be fantastic.”

The 2026 GT2 European Series will begin at Monza, Italy on 29th to 31st May 2026.
