We got wind of this one a little wee while ago but GT Sport and Michelin today announced the signature of an agreement by which the French manufacturer becomes the new official tyre supplier of the GT Sport, organized International GT Open series.
The agreement starts from the 2015 season for an initial 3 year period and applies to both the International GT Open and the Euroformula Open. The Clermont- Ferrand-based manufacturer will take over from Dunlop, who supplied tyres to the two series since their inception.
Jesús Pareja, CEO of GT Sport: “We are delighted to announce this new partnership, which will definitely give a new boost to both our championships. I would like to warmly thank Dunlop for their work and cooperation throughout the last 16 years and their contribution to the success of our series. We felt this was the appropriate time to renew things in an area of great technical importance such as tyre equipment. Michelin has all the credentials to bring us to a higher level of competitiveness. It’s a global and historical leader in tyre technology, with a long tradition in motorsports. I look forward to a very fruitful cooperation and I am sure that teams and drivers of both the International GT Open and the Euroformula Open will enjoy working with Michelin.”
Philippe Mussati, Director of the Michelin’s Customer Competition Department: “Michelin is very proud of the agreement with GT Sport, this partnership is a great moment for us. We take over a competitor which was a long-term supplier to GT Open and this is an additional challenge for us.
Michelin will accompany the teams to find the right set-up for the cars and will continue during the season to advise them about the best tyre management.
The GT Open is a European championship which takes place at some of the most famous circuits in the continent. The series is able to put together a wide professional plateau, which performs a terrific show for the public. It is everything Michelin’s Customer Competition department likes in motorsport!”
