This Saturday’s DESDER Indianapolis 8 Hour could be the last time a Lamborghini Huracán GT3 ever races in the Intercontinental GT Challenge, who knows – but if it is, Chicago Performance & Tuning’s Huracán GT3 EVO2 looks quick enough in Free Practice.
Less than 15 minutes into the session, Loris Spinelli drove the #64 CPT Lamborghini to the number one spot on the leaderboard, first setting a 1:23.761, and then improving on his next lap to a 1:23.686. Spinelli’s time remained the quickest of all as the 90-minute Free Practice session concluded.
The #88 Kellymoss Porsche 911 GT3 R was second, via a 1:23.710 from Loek Hartog.
Third was the #6 Dollahite Racing Ford Mustang GT3 as Alex Sedgwick set a 1:23.726, and Marcus Ericsson was fourth in the #99 Random Vandals Racing BMW M4 GT3 EVO.
After leading the two preliminary test sessions, the #32 GMG Racing Porsche was fifth in Free Practice in the hands of Riccardo Pera.
Then the #31 Wright Motorsports Porsche (Laurin Heinrich) was sixth, followed by the #27 JMF Motorsports Mercedes-AMG GT3 EVO (Wyatt Brichacek), the #017 and #13 Kellymoss Porsches (Lars Kern and Riley Dickinson), and the #999 GetSpeed Team PCX Racing Mercedes-AMG (Marvin Klein), completing the top ten.
Down the running order in 16th was the #80 Lone Star Racing Mercedes-AMG; less than 30 minutes in, the left front brake rotor gave out on the #80 Mercedes-AMG, bringing Álex Palou to a stop at turn one. This brought out the only red flag of Free Practice; the #80 car was limited to just 12 laps.
The sister #11 Mad Joker Racing Mercedes-AMG failed to turn any laps in Free Practice, while the #67 Scuderia Corsa Ferrari 296 GT3 Evo (Conrad Grunewald) was fastest of the three Am class cars.
That session was preceded by the 30-minute Bronze Test, where Jason Daskalos in the #27 JMF Mercedes-AMG went fastest with a 1:24.831.
