French Automotive outlet L’Argus caught up with Alfa Romeo CEO Jean-Philippe Imparato recently to talk about the company’s limited edition Alfa 33 Stradale.
Within that interview though, journalist Johann Leblanc asked Imperato about the prospects of Alfa Romeo joining the Hypercar class – and the response was not encouraging.
Imperato responded that he was “not convinced by the economic equation”, the rapid growth of the class felt to be leading to a “trend which is leading to an inflation of expenses.”
Imperato expressed the view that a commitment to a factory effort would require “No less than 250 million (Euros).”
This figure is based on an assumption of a three year programme in the top class, including the funding required for the programme to be prepared for competition (a further two years).
There has been no public statement from Alfa Romeo on the issue.
