ELMS Ever-Presents JMW Motorsport Back For More In 2022

And now wait on Le Mans decision

JMW Motorsport were a very welcome inclusion on the 2022 European Le Mans Series entry list, Jim McWhirter’s team then will continue a unbroken run in the ELMS from the very start in 2012, a record matched only by AF Corse.

Indeed JMW’s record of unbroken appearances stretches further back still, competing in the Le Mans Series from 2010 under their own name and with McWhirter’s Ferrari racing under the Virgo Motorsport banner from 2006 in European competition.

That period has seen the team progress from the Ferrari 430 GTC through the 458 GTE and now the 488 GTE (with a frustrating season with an Aston Martin Vantage GT2 in there too!).

McWhirter still owns and treasures all three Ferraris, a rare collection of all three modern Ferrari GTE-spec cars, all of them with race and title-winning provenance, and all of them with Le Mans starts, including a famous 2017 GTE Am win for the team in their first start with the then-new 488 (pictured top).

Happily, too we are set to see Jim return to the paddock in 2022 after being absent for the past two seasons, the team competing without the owner on-site due to COVID shielding requirements.

Plans are almost complete with the team still finalising their Silver-rated driver selection, and telling DSC that if suitably qualified and budgeted drivers are interested there is still a conversation to be had.

And now they wait for the news tomorrow from the Selection Committee, a ‘yes’ would see JMW start a 13th Le Mans in 14 years!
